☕ Quick Take:

A thrilling blend of dark academia, gothic romance, and magical intrigue that’s perfect for the spooky season!

📖 Synopsis:

In a world where the modern collides with the magical, Maddox Abernathy stands as the sole necromancer in a family of green witches. After a taxing stint at a specialized college for necromancers run by the Commission of Magic Management, she returns home to recuperate from the burnout of her finals.

Five years later, her academic rival, Atticus Blackwell, reappears with an offer she can’t refuse: a chance to return to the academic world and uncover a lost page from the book of the dead. Maddox, who can't stand him, must decide if she can put their tumultuous past behind them and become, of all things, friends.

However, some secrets are meant to remain buried, and the book may be one of them…

💭 My Thoughts:

I’m absolutely getting Sirius Black and Hogwarts vibes, and I’m here for it! This book is a fantastic mix of Tim Burton’s quirky aesthetic and the dark, enchanting atmosphere of A Discovery of Witches. It’s truly a perfect read for the spooky season!

The atmosphere in this story was simply incredible. I loved how the author combined playful elements with darker themes, creating a world that felt both whimsical and sinister. The twists were genuinely surprising, and I found myself deeply invested in the characters’ journeys. The emotional heartache was palpable—there were moments that truly made me tear up!

Maddox’s chaotic yet loving family brought so much depth to the narrative, contrasting beautifully with the turmoil and secrets surrounding Atticus. The complicated, twisted love they had for each other was portrayed so well, making it impossible not to root for them despite their rocky history.

Overall, The Academy of the Dead is a stunning blend of dark academia and gothic fantasy romance. It was an immensely enjoyable read that left me eagerly anticipating what Vermilion H. Baine will create next!

🌟 Final Thoughts:

If you’re in the mood for a captivating story filled with magic, rivalry, and the complexities of love, look no further! This book is sure to enchant readers who love gothic romances with a twist.
