Synopsis
One drop of blood can banish or bind…
Reeling from the loss of his father, and devastated that Evelyn has slipped through his fingers once more, Kade is singular in his purpose: rescue his love, and bring her home. That means getting through the Void to Drystan, a land no werewolf or witch has ever ventured through — with their lives intact. But when a risky alliance offers Kade protection, it means making a bargain he’s reluctant to fulfill.
Within the walls of Drystan Castle, Evelyn is determined to unearth the secrets of the vampyrs once and for all, so she can return home with answers. But even with an unlikely ally by her side — albeit at a dangerous price — the weight of the truths they unravel worsens a betrayal Evelyn’s bruised heart can’t handle.
Meanwhile, on the journey to Drystan, Kade unlocks a tempestuous magic of his own — that he cannot yet control. And even as enemies appear at his elbow, it’s easier to focus on finding Evelyn than figuring out who to trust.
But can the bonds of duty withstand the darkness that threatens to devour all those in its path?
Thoughts
I just finished reading "In Darkness & Duty" by C.C. Tyler, and let me tell you, it was just as clever and interesting as the first book in the Prophecy of Sorin series! I found myself completely engrossed in the story, especially when it came to learning more about Tovi. Her character development was fantastic, and her backstory added so much depth to the narrative.
One of the aspects I really enjoyed was the unique take on vampyre lore. C.C. Tyler has created a rich history for these creatures that feels fresh and intriguing. It's not often that I come across a vampyre story that surprises me, but this one definitely did!
And can we talk about Tovi and Eldrick? Their hate-to-lovers romance was absolutely delicious! The tension between them crackled off the pages, and I found myself rooting for them despite their initial animosity. It's always fun to watch characters who start off disliking each other slowly realize their true feelings.
As I turned the final page, I couldn't help but feel a mix of satisfaction and anticipation. This book was filled with twists and revelations that have me eagerly awaiting the next installment. I'm incredibly curious to see how C.C. Tyler will wrap up this series. If it's anything like the first two books, I know I'm in for a treat!
Overall, "In Darkness & Duty" was a fantastic read that I'd highly recommend to any fan of romantasy. It's got everything you could want: intriguing lore, complex characters, steamy romance, and a plot that keeps you guessing. I can't wait to see what happens next!
