I thoroughly enjoyed this book! A historical romance set in ancient Rome is always a treat, and this one didn’t disappoint. Julia was a standout character—headstrong, defiant, and unwilling to bow to any man’s demands. Her fiery spirit brought so much life to the story, especially during her initial interactions with Alaric.
The chemistry and pettiness between Julia and Alaric were delightful. Their early journey together was full of tension and humor, from Alaric making Julia wash his shirt to Julia slipping nettles into the bed she prepared for him. These moments of playful defiance and mutual irritation made their dynamic incredibly engaging.
This was an epic story with a richly drawn cast of characters. The stakes were high throughout, and there were times when I genuinely doubted whether some characters would survive to the end. The writing was immersive, the romance was spicy, and the pacing kept me hooked.
Overall, Enemy of My Dreams was a fantastic read, full of tension, passion, and heart. I’d gladly pick up more books by Jenny Williamson and can’t wait to see what she writes next!

Pairs well with a pomegranate black tea.
