☕ Quick Take:
A sizzling enemies-to-lovers romance set in a haunted Scottish castle that will keep you spellbound from start to finish!
📖 Plot Overview:
Sparks fly when an occult expert and a disgraced archeologist become enemies-with-benefits in this steamy romance. Riley Rhodes finally gets the chance to turn her family’s knack for the supernatural into a legitimate business when she’s hired to break the curse on an infamous Scottish castle. Used to working alone, she's pleasantly surprised to meet a handsome stranger upon arrival—until he tries to get her fired.
Fresh off a professional scandal, Clark Edgeware can’t allow a self-proclaimed “curse breaker” to threaten his last chance for redemption. After failing to get Riley kicked off his survey site, he vows to avoid her. Unfortunately for him, she vows to get even.
Riley expects the curse to drive Clark away, but instead, they keep finding themselves in close proximity. Too close. Turns out, the only thing they do better than fight is fool around. If they’re not careful, by the end of all this, more than the castle will end up in ruins.
💭 My Thoughts:
I've just finished reading Do Your Worst, and I'm absolutely smitten! From the moment I picked it up, I knew I was in for a treat. The enemies-to-lovers trope is one of my favorites, and Danan executed it brilliantly in this story.
Let me tell you, the chemistry between Riley and Clark is off the charts! I found myself falling for Clark right alongside Riley. His character is instantly magnetic, and I couldn't help but swoon every time he appeared on the page. Riley, too, is a fantastic protagonist—witty, determined, and incredibly relatable.
The setting of a cursed castle in Scotland was the perfect backdrop for this romance. It added just the right amount of spookiness and intrigue, making it an ideal read for the beginning of autumn. I felt completely immersed in the atmospheric Scottish landscape.
Now, let's talk about the spice level—because wow! This book definitely brought the heat. If you're a fan of steamy scenes, you won't be disappointed. Danan knows how to write tension that practically sizzles off the page.
I listened to the audiobook version, and I have to say, Saskia Maarleveld and Shane East did an incredible job with the narration. Their ability to switch between various accents was impressive, and they really brought Clark and Riley to life. Their performances added an extra layer of enjoyment to an already fantastic story.
🌟 Final Thoughts:
Overall, Do Your Worst was everything I hoped for and more. It's cute, it's sexy, it's funny, and it's the perfect read for anyone looking for a contemporary romance with a paranormal twist. I can't recommend it enough!
