Synopsis

There’s something terribly wrong with the Castleway Circus.

When mortals happen inside its big billowy tents, they don’t always come out again, and the clown specters who haunt it won’t leave me alone. My partner, Quiet, insists we go and investigate. I’d rather have my hands nailed to a moving train—better chance of surviving that as a vampire than whatever haunts the circus.

She believes the specters who persist in making our lives more difficult mean no harm. They just want our help, she says. I’m not convinced. I want to be of assistance when there’s a case that needs solving; however, there’s certain things I’m not willing to give up.

Mainly, the one thing—one person.

I’m not willing to lose Quiet, and deep in my bones that’s what I believe will happen. If we go there, if we surrender to those tents and the mysteries contained inside, I’ll lose the only person I’ve ever loved. But Quiet is certain that if we avoid facing the consequences waiting for us there, I might just lose her anyway ...

Thoughts

I absolutely loved this book! It was just as perfect as the first one in the series, and I found it even creepier with all the time spent at the Castleway Circus. The author's ability to create an eerie, atmospheric setting really shines through, making me feel as if I was right there amidst the billowy tents and mysterious performers.

As a fan of gothic and paranormal fiction, I was thrilled by this Sherlock Holmes-inspired tale. The blend of mystery, supernatural elements, and Victorian-era charm is expertly crafted, creating a unique and captivating reading experience. The world-building is rich and immersive, allowing me to lose myself in the story completely.

Rorick quickly became my favorite character - he's the perfect blend of an alpha vampire boyfriend and a true gentleman. His complexity and depth are wonderfully portrayed, showcasing both his fierce protectiveness and his tender side. I found myself drawn to his internal struggles and the way he navigates his feelings for Quiet while dealing with the supernatural threats they face.

Speaking of Quiet, her character is equally compelling. The dynamic between Rorick and Quiet is so endearing, and I couldn't get enough of their interactions. Their relationship feels authentic and well-developed, with moments of tension, tenderness, and mutual respect that had me rooting for them throughout the story.

The plot kept me on the edge of my seat with its numerous twists and turns. Just when I thought I had things figured out, the author would throw in another surprise that left me gasping. I found myself racing through the pages, desperate to uncover what would happen next. The pacing is excellent, with a perfect balance of action, character development, and world-building.

One aspect I particularly enjoyed was the intricate mystery surrounding the Castleway Circus. The author does a fantastic job of slowly unraveling the secrets while maintaining an air of suspense and danger. The clown specters added an extra layer of creepiness that sent shivers down my spine.

If you enjoy any of these genres - fantasy, paranormal, mystery, or historical fiction - I highly recommend giving this book a read. It's a perfect blend of all these elements, creating a unique and unforgettable story. The characters are well-developed, the plot is engaging, and the writing is atmospheric and immersive. You won't be disappointed!

In conclusion, "Coven of Consequence" is a stellar addition to the Eternal Enemies series. It builds upon the foundation laid in the first book while taking the story in exciting new directions.
