☕ Quick Take:
An enthralling romantasy full of political intrigue, forbidden magic, and heart-pounding romance.
📖 Plot Overview:
In the second installment of The Lost Queen series, Wren finds herself trapped in the capital of Asteroth, where her growing shadow magic is both her greatest strength and her greatest danger. Surrounded by people who would destroy her if they knew, she has to keep her power hidden, while the Regent's Council plans to use her as a puppet. Meanwhile, Finn, son of the enemy king, struggles with his loyalty as he helps Wren conceal her magic, even though it goes against everything he stands for.
As danger looms both inside and outside the capital, Wren and Finn's love is tested at every turn. With enemies threatening to tear the kingdom apart, can Wren control her magic and save her people, or will she be consumed by the very power that makes her a queen?
💭 My Thoughts:
I just finished A Kiss of Flame by Jessica Thorne, and wow, what a ride! This book had me completely engrossed from start to finish, and I found myself lost in its world for hours on end. Thorne does a fantastic job of blending intense political intrigue, fast-paced action, and an all-consuming romance that makes it impossible to put down.
Wren’s journey in this second book is filled with tension and emotion. Trapped in the capital, she feels like a prisoner, constantly under the threat of discovery and the suffocating weight of her own magic. The author captured that claustrophobic atmosphere so well that I could feel Wren's frustration and fear seeping off the pages.
Finn and Wren's relationship continues to be one of the highlights of the series for me. Their chemistry is undeniable, and the moments they steal together are both tender and bittersweet. But with so much at stake, their loyalty is tested in ways that made my heart ache. Every stolen glance, every quiet conversation added layers to their dynamic, keeping me rooting for them.
Though A Kiss of Flame leaves readers with even more questions and tension leading into the final book, it masterfully sets up what’s sure to be an explosive conclusion. Thorne’s world-building and character development continue to shine, and I’m already counting down the days for the next book!
🌟 Standout Moments:
Wren’s struggle to control her shadow magic while being manipulated by the Regent’s Council creates a gripping, high-stakes atmosphere.
The love between Wren and Finn is palpable, and their scenes together are filled with tension, heartbreak, and hope.
The intricate web of political intrigue and power struggles kept me guessing with every twist and turn.
📚 Final Thoughts:
The Lost Queen series continues to impress with A Kiss of Flame. It’s a perfect blend of action, magic, romance, and court intrigue, making it an absolute must-read for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Rebecca Yarros, and romantasy in general. If you haven’t started this series yet, now’s the time!
📷 Aesthetic:
Think darkened castle hallways, stolen kisses by firelight, and shadowy magic unfurling against the backdrop of a kingdom on the edge of war.
💬 Discussion:
If you could wield a dangerous power like Wren’s shadow magic, would you embrace it or hide it? And why?
